Bios
L. E. Shepherd, Jr., MSA
Mr. Shepherd was an original founder and consultant with HealthCare Consulting, Inc. In 1999, Mr. Shepherd merged HealthCare Consulting, Inc. and Employee Benefits Services, Inc. with National Capital Reciprocal Ins. Co. prior to its initial public offering on NASDAQ. Mr. Shepherd managed the Healthcare Consulting Division of the new publicly traded company until September of 2002, after which he left to start Healthcare Business Consultants, LLC. Mr. Shepherd has been working with and consulting with doctors since 1972. Prior to becoming a healthcare business consultant, Mr. Shepherd was a practice administrator for a private medical group where he also developed a testing and research foundation for the group.
Mr. Shepherd served four (4) years active duty in the U.S. Air Force as an auditor in the accounting and finance department. He received his bachelor's degree in business from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Va. Tech) and his master's degree from George Washington University. In addition, he attended the Air Force Accounting and Finance School.
Mr. Shepherd is a past President of the Society of Professional Business Consultants as well as being certified by The Institute of Certified Professional Business Consultants. He is one of the founding directors of the National Association of Health Care Consultants. He has written articles on practice, financial and tax management for various medical and dental publications. He also has lectured to numerous medical societies, and taught practice, financial and tax management courses through medical and dental residency programs.
Mr. Shepherd is the past Director of Physician Services for Cherry, Bekaert, & Holland, LLP. (CB&H), one of the largest regional CPA and consulting firms headquartered in the Southeast. CB&H’s resource network stretches across seven states. Mr. Shepherd is now principal owner and managing member of Medbizonics, LLC as well as a owner/member of Docs Billing Solutions, LLC.
Scott W. Blevins, R.Ph., M.B.A.
Mr. Blevins has over 15 years experience in the healthcare industry, with an emphasis in providing consultative services to physicians, including clinical and physician practice management advice. Prior to becoming a healthcare business consultant, Mr. Blevins worked in various segments of the pharmacy industry, which included Retail, Independent, and Long-Term care facility dispensing and consulting. Mr. Blevins has also worked in the Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) industry.
Mr. Blevins received his Bachelor's of Science degree, from the Medical College of Virginia (M.C.V.) School of Pharmacy, and his Master's in Business Administration degree from the E. Claiborne Robins School of Business, at the University of Richmond.
Mr. Blevins is a current member of the American Pharmacists Association, and past member of the Medical Group Management Association and Virginia Pharmacists Association.
Mr. Blevins is the past Manager of Physician Services for Cherry, Bekaert, & Holland, LLP. (CB&H), one of the largest regional CPA and consulting firms headquartered in the Southeast. Most recently, Mr. Blevins was employed by Medco, a Fortune 100 company, and one of the world’s largest Pharmacy Benefit Managers (P.B.M.). At Medco, Mr. Blevins was a “Regional Consulting Pharmacist” and the National Operations Manager for electronic prescribing. In this position, Mr. Blevins was tasked with developing training materials, training inside and outside sales specialists, managing staff and expectations, evaluating a number of Electronic Medical Record software products, promoting physician adoption, and increasing utilization of electronic prescribing as it related to Medco’s physician engagement strategy. Mr. Blevins is now principal owner and managing member of HealthCoreMSO, LLC as well as the President and an owner/member of Docs Billing Solutions, LLC.
